I get these error messages when on WebReg.
There are a myriad of reasons for this problem:
1. Enrolling out of course code order.
2. Entering the wrong course code.
3. Not enrolling in the co-requisite first.
4. Not eligible for the course, among others.
If after checking what you entered and you still have trouble, contact the Chemistry Undergrad Office in NS2 1101 or email us at undergrad@chem.ps.uci.edu.
There are 2 choices:
Enroll in the lecture, discussion, and another lab that fit into your schedule. Then wait-list the lab you want. Once space is available on the wait-listed lab, you will automatically be enrolled in that section and dropped from the one you were enrolled in.
OR
Wait-list all components of the course (lecture, discussion, and lab). Once space is available in the wait-listed lab, you will be automatically be enrolled into all the above.
I signed up for lab but couldn't get a lecture; the system dropped me, what should I do? This applies to lecture and discussion as well, or any other course with the concurrent enrollment or linkage requirement.
Don't Panic! You have many opportunities to try and enroll in a class. Here are some suggestions:
Wait-list the lecture, discussion, and lab
Or
Wait to enroll during the Initial enrollment period
Or
Wait to enroll during the adjustment period
Or
Enroll During the 1st week of classes
If a class is full students are able to place themselves on a waitlist via WebReg. If space becomes available, the student at the top of the list is automatically added to the class.
This does not apply to O-Chem. or some upper division lab courses.
The WebReg waitlist option is de-activated for undergraduate labs on the first day of classes. It is de-activated for all other courses at the end of the second week.
Go to http://www.reg.uci.edu/registrar/waitlist.html for more information about the waitlist system.
You are unable to access the class you wish to repeat when your WebReg window initially opens. You can access the course during the adjustment period when you have a D/F/NR/NP, or during the first day of classes when you have a C-. You are not allowed to repeat a class more than once in the academic year.
I can't access the class I want when I initially enroll.
What do I do?
If you met the prerequisite at another school, it is your responsibility to bring an unofficial transcript to NS2 1101 to clear your pre-requisite. On your transcript, ALWAYS include your NAME, STUDENT ID #, CLASS, QUARTER, and CONTACT # (if problems arise).
What if I have an AP credit?
If you have a score of 4 or 5 You cannot enroll in Chem. 1A during the regular academic year.
If you have a score of 3 or lower - You must take the Chemistry Placement Exam.
You can enroll in Summer Session Chem. 1A at UCI in order to fulfill professional school admission requirements. No credit will be given for grades or units earned. Choose the audit option when you register.
You can enroll in Chem. H2A (Honors General Chem.) Fall quarter or Chem. 1B in Fall or Winter Quarter.
For more information, go to the Chemistry Undergraduate Office website. Choose Chemistry Undergraduate Office, select Verifying a Prerequisite and Establishing Eligibility, choose a quarter. http://www.chem.uci.edu/undergrad/
Taking a course at another school to satisfy a prerequisite? It is your responsibility to find out if the course is a UCI equivalent. Contact academic counselors in your school of major. You can also look on www.assist.org for the equivalency, please bring a printed copy to the Chemistry Undergraduate Office.
A complete listing of course prerequisites can be found at http://webster.reg.uci.edu:8800/cgi-bin/prrqcgi.
If you don't meet the prerequisites for the course, you will be dropped from the course by the Chemistry Department.
A copy of your unofficial transcript is required. If work is in progress, you must furnish an official enrollment confirmation. At that time you will be given conditional eligibility to enroll. You must then follow up by presenting your final transcripts, which shows you have completed the course.
On your transcript include your NAME, STUDENT ID #, CLASS, QUARTER, and CONTACT # (if problems arise).
Lectures and Labs
Yes.
You can't take the lecture without the lab, unless you have prior credit for the lab.
No, you cannot take Lecture without Lab. This does not apply if you have prior credit for either lecture or laboratory.
No, lectures and discussions are linked. Discussions are an integral part of the course. Yes you should enroll. This is your opportunity to have those lectures and homework questions answered in more depth.
For G-Chem. labs, you must attend the 1st week's lab! If you are not enrolled in a section you may attend ANY one of the sections to complete the first lab (There are NO MAKEUPS, missed labs=zero credit). Use WebReg to register.
For O-Chem. labs, you must be enrolled into a section by the end of the first week of the quarter. Attendance will be taken at labs during the first week. NO SHOWS will lose their space, thus allowing other students to take their spot. Go to RH 556, the Organic Chemistry stockroom, 10 minutes before each lab section you are able to attend. No show space will be given away at that time.
I am an Engineering Major, can I take any lectures without
the labs?
A 50.00 Non-Refundable Fee is added to your ZOTBILL @ 5PM on Friday, at the end of the 1st week.
Note** You will be double-billed if you add a new section AND forget to drop the old one before Friday at the end of the 1st week. No lab fee reversals will be considered after the end of each quarter.
NO LAB CHANGES AFTER WEEK 1.
Do I need an add/drop card signed during the first two weeks of class?
During the first 2 weeks you can access classes on WebReg.
Lower Division: General & Organic Chemistry have until the end of week 2 to drop.
Upper Division: Have until the end of week 6 to drop.
Do Instructors sign add cards?
Instructors DO NOT sign add/drop cards. This is done in NS2 1101.
Can I change my grade option to pass/no pass?
Grade changes must be done by Friday at the end of the 2nd week of the quarter. (NO EXCEPTIONS!!!). Courses with lecture and accompanying lab must be taken with the same grade option.
I need information on dropping a class.
Add, Drop, and Change cards are only signed for the most unusual instances in which you had NO control over the situation after the 2nd and 6th week deadline.
Lower Division: After the 2nd week you must complete a Petition Form.
Upper Division: After the 6th week you must complete a Petition Form.
You can obtain a Petition Form from the Chemistry Undergraduate Office (NS 2 1101) during office hours.
The following reasons WILL NOT be considered:
1. Not knowing about the deadline or the procedure for dropping or changing- it is printed clearly in the catalogue and in the schedule of classes.
2. For the purpose of rejecting a grade.
3. Personality conflicts with the instructor.
4. You missed the deadline because you couldn't find our office; were late getting to the Registrar's office, of had to leave town on the deadline day.
5. Inadequate prerequisites for the course.
We may require verification of medical or other excuses. It will be necessary to pay a $3.00 late fee to the Cashier's office; if your request is approved. Even if your late drop is approved, you will still receive the "W" notation on your transcript for any class dropped after the 6th week.
After week 6 a drop will result in a "W" on your transcript. Come to the Chemistry Undergraduate Office to complete a Change of Enrollment Petition. Documentation that will verify your reason to drop is REQUIRED. The Dean's signature from YOUR school of major is REQUIRED.
Concurrent enrollment policy is enforced. If you drop lecture you MUST drop laboratory and vice versa.
Can I go to the next course in a series with a D?
Between Series (Example 1A to 1B & 1B to 1C)
You need a C- or above to go on.
Between Courses (Example 1C into 51A)
You need a D or above to go on.
Do I enroll if I'm making up an "I" grade for a class?
Do not enroll in a course when making up an "I" grade. Go to the course and notify the instructor of the course that you are making up the "I". You may sit in on the entire course, take all the exams, but you will only receive credit for the course work you missed (i.e. midterm, final).
If I get an "I" how do I register for the next course?
Notify the Chemistry Undergraduate Office via email at undergrad@chem.ps.uci.edu. We will have to clear your eligibility for enrollment into the next course. Make sure you include you UCI ID number and your name.
